Book Bootcamp (NaNoWriMo 2024 Edition)

This upcoming Book Bootcamp will be for the entire months of October and November, which means it’s covering “Preptober” and “Nanowrimo,” which are when writers all over the nation work to finish an entire first draft of a novel in the month of November. They use October, or “Preptober,” to plan their book and prepare to write it completely in the 30 days of November.

With that said, this Book Bootcamp could be considered as a guided Nanowrimo, or even a Nanowrimo Writing Course. That actually sounds way more marketable than “Book Bootcamp.” Oh well, too late to change it now.

Anyway, we’ll begin Book Bootcamp on October 1st and finish it on November 30th. Between these two dates, as mentioned above, your book idea will be nurtured and formed into an outline, and finally into a finished first draft. This is useful because the first draft is the hardest to write.

For Preptober (October) we’ll be establishing the plot and characters for your book, outlining it and building it’s foundation on the most difficult parts. We’ll be making your plans for Nanowrimo, preparing the physical necessities, creating backup plans for chaotic days to come, and trying out different writing methods to ensure your Nanowrimo goes as smoothly as possible. You will experiment with various techniques for plotting, character development, worldbuilding, magic systems, keeping character/plot secrets interesting, story beats, sagging middle fixes, plot archetypes, writing methods, writing rituals, and SMART writing goals.

Nanowrimo itself will be more straightforward, involving more check-ins and 1 on 1 calls to help you stay motivated and on track.

This course takes the form of a weekly instructional video for you to watch. This video includes your homework for the week, allowing you time to ask for clarifications or altered assignments to progress in your book. There will be a quiz each week for you to show your progress and prepare for the group meeting that follows. The group meeting is not manditory, but is very helpful to guage how developed your story really is compared to others’ and to inspire more ideas and solutions. If this sounds scary, you can join with your camera and microphone off, no problem.

When you sign up for Book Bootcamp, you’re paying for the full camp, which is 2 months long (October and November).

Again, each week has:

  • 1 video lesson
  • homework to complete that week
  • a quiz to complete and show your progress
  • and 1 group meeting to boost motivation

You also get to schedule 1 meeting with Aster for each month so you can ask questions directly and get tailored help and advice.

It’s time to stop charring your book on the backburner. Let’s get it written before the end of the year.

Sign up now! Spots are limited and the sign-up will be taken down when they are gone.
